This morning, the recipients of the British Fashion Council’s MA Scholarship were announced – kind of like prize-giving day at the end of term, except with actual money involved. The three young designers selected will receive funding to go on to graduate level study, an honour bestowed by the BFC and its pals Coach, Marks & Spencer, Net-a-Porter and Eiesha Bharti Pasricha. So who are the lucky recipients of this most fabulous prize? In no particular order – there’s Benny Andaloo, who will study MA Fashion Menswear at CSM, Gabriella Sardena who will study the MA Fashion Textiles course at CSM and Shaun Harris who will study the MA Fashion Womenswear course at the RCA. According to a fine judging panel, made up of Sarah Mower, Aitor Throup, Janet Lance Hughes and Clare Mercer, the designers are ‘exceptionally talented people who have already excelled in their BA degrees.’ High praise indeed. Sarah Mower said that the fund helps, ‘alleviate individual student debt and allow talent to develop. In the long term, they will underpin the vibrancy of British fashion culture and ensure the success of the UK’s fashion industry in the future.’ Sounds good – especially the part about alleviating individual student debt. We’re not bitter at all – promise.
Congratulations to Benny, Shaun and Gabriella!
