You don’t take comic books seriously? Drop by the office sometime and I’ll teach you a thing or two. Can’t guarantee I won’t scream spit and possibly cry in frustration…but come on over and I’ll have a powerpoint presentation and cuppa just waiting. Let’s start with Underground Comics shall we? Those subversive and often naively drawn rags that emerged in American head shops during the 1970’s, that were simultaneously hyper sexed/hilarious and darkly political. Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons) began his career by creating the Underground title ‘Life in Hell’ back in 1977. The clever people at Comme have cottoned on to this untapped source of design inspiration, and collaborated with Mr. Groening on a range of T-shirts that feature his gormless anthropomorphic toons. Being that unusual combination of comic book geek/fashion obsessive, I will be wearing my T with unrivalled pride when they become available from Dover Street Market.
