THOMAS PERSSON: THE MEN

FROM THE VAULT (WINTER 2010)

NAME: Thomas Persson

MAGAZINES/EMPLOYERS: Acne Paper/Acne.

OCCUPATION: the magazine.

OFFICIAL JOB TITLE: Editor-in-chief and creative director.

STAR SIGN: Sagittarius.

PORN-STAR NAME (FIRST PET’S NAME + MOTHER’S MAIDEN NAME): My first and only pet was a blue parakeet named Socrates, and my mother never married, so it would be Socrates Persson. Imagine a Bel Ami cover with that name and this face. I don’t think Socrates would fly off the shelves at Prowler.

FIRST JOB: At 17, I was making my way as a go-go boy in Oslo, believe it or not, and during the day I was an editorial assistant at a small newspaper.

WORST JOB: In the early morning, before I went into the office, I was on my hands and knees in a restaurant, scrubbing the floors. I was a hard-working teenager. I don’t think people are allowed to do all of those things with teenagers these days.

WHAT ARE YOU WEARING (ON THE DAY YOUR PORTRAIT WAS TAKEN)? Pink cotton shirt and blue jeans by Acne, black patent leather shoes by Yves Saint Laurent, navy-blue silk polka-dot bow tie by Hermès.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT? That I’m never going to dance the go-go again.

ARE YOU PART OF THE ZEITGEIST? Depends on what you think it takes to be a member.

HAVE YOU EVER USED/WOULD YOU EVER USE SEX TO FURTHER YOUR CAREER? No, but I could perhaps use my career to further my own sex life. But that would make me a jerk, and I am too nice to be a jerk.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE? I do love my work very much.

WHAT DO YOU HATE? The thought of not being able to do it.

WHO ARE YOUR INFLUENCES? WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO? When I was young, I had two older friends who were enormously influential in my formative years. I still look up to them.

IF NOT YOU, WHO/WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE? If I get three wishes, I would like to have the wit of Truman Capote, the body of Rudolph Nureyev and the voice of Frank Sinatra. Which man wouldn’t?

WHAT’S YOUR POISON? An overdose of well-made dry martinis.

ARE YOU A BITCH? No, I don’t have the talent, which is a blessing.

WHAT TURNS YOU ON? Male pattern-cutters.

SELL YOURSELF IN 10 WORDS: There is more to Socrates Persson than meets the eye.

WHAT’S UP AND COMING? Diana Ross.
