See that image of the nude deity? And the hand? The dead bird and general debris scattered on the shelves? Looks like an artist’s studio, no? It is – Paul Thek’s. But it was Hujar who took this picture, and more, back in 1967. Turns out most of them document the making of Thek’s most infamous sculpture, The Tomb – Death of a Hippie. Artist documenting artist. Modern. Peter Hujar: Thek’s Studio 1967, Sep 8-Oct 2; Maureen Paley, 21 Herald Street, E2.
