What’s your dream travel destination?
“Being in a tent in the middle of the Serengeti was pretty special. As long as I’m not in a city, there are animals close by and decent food and wine within easy reach, I’m happy.”
What three things would you take with you on a desert island?
“A notebook, a dog and man would do me.”
What’s the thing that you’ve forgotten to pack and thought, “Damn”?
“My birds of the world book. It can ruin my holiday if I see new birds but am unable to identify them.”
What’s your favourite holiday song? Cliff Richard or Madonna?
“The Cliff one is too chirpy and happy-clappy for my liking, so it would have to be Madonna. Though I’d be happier listening to Mondo Bongo by Joe Strummer – it’s very relaxing.”
Any travel shockers you would care to share?
“Turning up for a driving holiday in Iceland on my birthday and realising we had both forgotten our licences was pretty grim. Running out of petrol in Nowheresville, Mexico, on the way to the airport was pretty clever, too.”
How many minibar mini bottles are too many?
“I’ve never thought ‘too many’ when it comes to minibars. It’s been more a case of ‘never enough’… I’m not a fairy, those portions don’t even touch the sides.”
Are you a fan of room service? Do you ever indulge?
“Always! If I’m staying in a hotel, there’s usually a hangover involved, so I love nothing more than lunch in bed with unintentionally amusing foreign TV and fizzy drinks.”
Do you drop your towels on the bathroom floor after just one wash or do you reuse?
“I’m afraid I’m probably a dropper. Hotels are about indulgence for me, I use them as a holiday from good behaviour.”
Do you wear Pringle? When do you wear Pringle? When travelling? Working? Drinking?
“I try not to wear Pringle while I’m working as it’s too good to get blood and grease over, but I wear it everywhere else. I have some smart trousers for going out, an all-in-one for vegging out in and a jumper and scarf for any occasion.”
What’s your favourite piece from the Pringle travel collection? The one you’re wearing?
“I am trying to wean myself off the all-in-one a little bit as I’m bad at rationing the clothes I live and end up wearing them out if I’m not careful. I suppose it’s my favourite because I have nothing else like it. It manages to be unbelievably cosy and glamorous at the same time, which aren’t words you see together very often.”
