PAUL SMITH : BACKSTAGE BOYS. PARIS MENSWEAR SPRING/SUMMER 2013.
There are roses on the jackets. Deep red printed roses. Like the ones on the invite. Which puts me in mind of Bette Midler. In The Rose. Channeling Janis Joplin. Minus the crazy hair and the drug habit. Obviously this is more restrainned. But even the musty hues of the clothes, the dusty pinks and mustard yellows bring to mind Janis shot through a sepia hued lens. It’s like Bobby McGee had showed up some forty years later, smartened up. He no longer hitches rides to Baton Rouge. He doesn’t have to. He’s now the proud owner of a Mercedes Benz. He can drive there himself.
