In this age of global recession and impending doom, our approach to saving must change. Why bother with savings and shares? They probably won’t be there next time you check your account. Which is why we suggest investing in jewels. Cartier jewels. We’ve always felt that lessons learnt and footsteps followed should come courtesy of the fabulously glamorous and ridiculously rich. And when it comes to jewels what better examples are there than Elizabeth Taylor and Wallis Simpson? Both had a love of shiny sparkly things. Both invested heavily. And both collections made a killing when auctioned off posthumously. Ideally, this kind of investment should be made whereby you choose what you want and someone else pays for it, but we realise that times have changed. Women are strong and independent in a way that only Beyoncé can describe in song. Personally, we feel a well-rounded Cartier collection should be like a visual history of the brand. It’s far chicer than wearing a WWF-logoed badge. It would complement a pair of rather fabulous white gold parrot-motif earrings with wings of emerald and sapphire. You’ve always enjoyed the sound of the birds when you wake. Tweet tweet. An orchid – and, yes, we are thinking of the Caresse d’Orchidées – would shine a dazzling jewelled light on your exotic nature, your more sensual side, while a jewelled dragon, with its fire-breathing ways, speaks of fearlessness in the face of danger. Or why not hint at your regal heritage with a Patiala necklace. Well it was created for the Maharaqjah and you’ve always thought you’d look rather exquisite sat atop a throne.You see, the most important thing to remember when amassing your collection of timeless Cartier pieces is that each must be chosen with care. They are an investment in yourself. They are a reflection of the true you. Every necklace, every ring must appear to sing when laid against your skin. Whoever said that eyes were the window of your soul lied. It’s your jewels.
