ACNE STUDIOS: PARIS FASHION WEEK S/S 14
“I have always been surrounded by water” said Acne’a creative director Jonny Johansson in the show notes. The show opened with Swedish opera singer Jussi Bjorling singing his version of a classic poem about the sea. So the theme, was nautical mixed in with plenty of Acne’s workwear classics. There were oversized mohair sailor stripe knits with sleeves so long they reached the knees, shorts, cut wide on the leg and worn with a thick leather cummerbund, pea coats came in fisherman yellow and painted twill and little sailor dresses were worked in dark denim. Leather jackets and jeans, in sailcloth white, were neatly scored with a knife to create linear perforations. The nautical theme never strayed into Captain Birdseye cliche. This was Acne back on form, with a collection full of cool modern clothes. Hipster ahoy!
