RAF SIMONS X STERLING RUBY: THE DUDES OF DYSTOPIA
In the words of J.D. from Scrubs, “Allow me to paint you a picture with my imagination brush.” The Wachowski Brothers have been commissioned by Warner Bros. to produce a fourth Matrix movie: The Matrix Redemption. After the original, Reloaded and Revolution, the battle is against the Matrix is won and humanity has been set free. No longer enslaved by the machines, humankind is free to live in true reality, not a digitally simulated one. The film follows the human race as they attempt to build their civilisation after millennia of oppression. It’s an uphill struggle but, for the first time in centuries, hope isn’t just a splinter of light at the end of a long, dark tunnel; hope has dawned. It is in this newfound freedom that I feel Raf Simons and Sterling Ruby’s A/W14 collection belongs. These boys belong to the future, that much is obvious. They are revolutionaries; they know who they are and what they’re fighting for. Let’s call them the dudes of dystopia. Am I onto something here or is this the most pretentious b******s you’ve read all week?
