CHARLES JAMES: LABEL RELAUNCHING
Rumours that have been flying around surrounding the relaunch of the Charles James label have now been verified. The man behind this new venture, American movie magnate Harvey Weinstein, said in a statement yesterday, “Charles James was one of the most incredible couturiers in the history of fashion and this label deserves to be a household name in same ranks as Chanel, Dior and Oscar de la Renta. We are beyond thrilled to be spearheading the revival of this brand and bringing it back to the world’s finest retailers.” This announcement comes in conjunction with the current exhibition of James’s work on display at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and with the theme of this year’s Met Ball which was held last Sunday. It has also been announced that Weinstein’s wife and Marchesa designer Georgina will act as creative consultant for the brand. It will be interesting to see how the team navigate this relaunch given the disdain James showed for the past and his preoccupation with the future. The couturier famously once said, “There is no going back. Study the past to know why, not what, and from the why, dream and do.” However this does remain exciting news for any girl (with a fat wallet) who has aspirations to dress like a Disney princess. We have a certain fashion assistant here at Ten Towers who meets this criterion (minus the fat wallet). Good news, ey Will?
