So, Celine’s resort collection hit the internet yesterday and, well, it’s amazing. From the minimalist black clothing, to the chandelier-like earrings and ‘Phoebe Philo Fanny Pack’ (PPFP) as we’re calling it. From the cami top with straps like a chain necklace, to the striped ribbed dresses in green and red, wide-legged culottes and the dresses and trousers with tasseled hems. Apart from the green and red, the colour palette is mainly black and cream. The collection is, as I say, amazing. So amazing in fact, that we think it should be kept in glass cabinets. You know, like taxidermy birds are in natural history museums. But we don’t think people will want to keep it glass cabinets. No, people will want to keep it on their bodies and in their wardrobes. Because that’s what people always want to do with Phoebe Philo’s clothes. It’s the knee-jerk reaction upon seeing them. Because Phoebe’s design sensibility straddles the thin line between ‘fashion-forwardness’ and wearability. And it’s a line she straddles adeptly. Hence the knee-jerk reaction.
