I was in a car with Richard Gray once. Mid-conversation, he pulled out a pair of sunglasses, put them on and declared that he was Phoebe Philo’s mother. I didn’t know, and still don’t, what Celia Philo looks like, so couldn’t assess the success of the transformation. I just smiled and nodded politely. Sunglasses have the power to transform. Take this pair by Fendi. They maybe not have the power to transform exec fashion directors of weekly supplements into mothers of famous designers, but they certainly change normal people into fabulous, fanciable, fuckable fashbots. And doesn’t everyone want to be one of those? We do.
