Marques Almeida: London Pre Collections 2016

“Undone-ness,” “rawness,” and “the whole ‘90s aesthetic” is how this year’s LVHM Prize winners Marques’Almeida define their aesthetic. You can see this pan out in their cruise collection – in the collection but even in the lookbook itself. The rawness is very literal in the seams and in the denim that looks like it was cut roughly (but very artfully) with a pair of blunt scissors. As for the ‘90s aesthetic, well, it’s clear – there’s definitely an element of TLC here. TLC meets London fashion student. In fact it’s very – and she won’t mind me saying this – Annie, who is our fabulous and fabulously-dressed intern. Higher praise I could not give you, Marquey. But if there’s one thing that this collection proves it’s that the brand isn’t just a one trick (ripped denim) pony – the metallic leather, organza and silk satin testify to this. It’s onwards and, with LVMH’s backing, upwards for this design duo.
