Still riding on the high of Simone Rocha’s stellar SS19 show at London Fashion Week, the whole world is getting an extra shot of Rocha via Moncler. And the best part is – this one is 100% shoppable.
First presented as part of the Moncler Genius debut back in February, the 4 Moncler Simone Rocha collection was giving us everything we could have imagined from a collaboration like this. A polar winter came down onto the Rocha world, covering the rose gardens in heavy snow and embellishing the velvet-covered palace with icicles. Who knew a puffer jacket could be so romantic? The collection was made for all the Simone Rocha girls and boys headed into the Alps. Circa 1859. Taking inspiration from 19th century hiking ensembles, the London designer looked at what the historical female figures wore during their expeditions. “I did a lot of research into female climbers like Josephine Diebitsch Peary, Henriette d’Angeville and Maria ‘de Mont Blanc’ Paradis and found amazing imagery from that era. The women would go up mountains in full Victorian dress.” And so she dressed the Rocha hikers in contemporary variations of Victorian dress too.
Calf-length pouf dresses, layers of ruffled tulle and piles of the finest embroidery found their way into a winter-ready collection that, beyond its astounding beauty, seems absolutely functional. “I wanted to create a uniform of voluminous silhouettes, deconstructed proportions and a new idea of a practical femininity,” Rocha tells us. Moncler’s heritage in activewear absolutely helped achieving so. A prime example of this perfect merging were the reinterpreted drop-shoulder jackets with voluminous sleeves. A silhouette that has become part of Rocha’s core line since its debut in the SS17 collection. Now, that same shape goes beyond the idea of fashion – the sleeves and the wide lapels are made in nylon and padded with down. Here to warm you up, but with floral adornments taking it back to fantasy. It might be cold, but it’s still Simone Rocha, you know?
