10 Years Of The Loewe Puzzle Bag

The Puzzle is turning double digits. After a decade of gracing the arms of fashionable folk around the world, the origami-inspired Loewe staple has retained its It-bag status. Hitting the catwalk in 2015, it was the first purse created by former creative director Jonathan Anderson upon his arrival (and the first new Loewe bag silhouette to be released since the 1980s). The crafty accessory sees the Spanish house flex its muscles as a maestro in all things leather.

Artisans at its Madrid HQ put together every Puzzle by hand, with each bag built from 75 individual pieces of leather cut into precise, geometric shapes that fit together like a jigsaw.

In true B-day fashion, Loewe is celebrating big – it’s reissuing a series of Puzzles from the house’s archive and introducing a new iteration as part of its Puzzle 10 collection. Each bag tours through the artisanal techniques that have been applied to it over the last decade, from appliqué and embroidery to cross-stitch and patchwork, also including a collaboration with the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation. When it comes to the bag’s long-standing appeal, there’s nothing puzzling about it.

10 Magazine’s 25 anniversary issue is out on newsstands September 15. Pre-order your copy here.
