A new heavyweight in the techno-sphere adds to Fabric Presents – a series spearheaded by the London nightclub Fabric which enlists electronic music artists to curate a collection of tracks as a celebration of the electro genre. Vienna-born and Manchester-based DJ and producer Salute, has created the latest mix in the exhilarating series. Now available to stream online with a vinyl up for grabs too, it’s a fast-paced experience full of hypnotic beats wherein Salute packs a tough punch in their sound. The mix is grounded in raging techno with sample-based house music and influences of emotive soul and funky hip hop.
Two original songs are included in the mix, Double Luxury, and the freshly released Love Has Come Again. Artists like Kerri Chandler, Dorian Concept and Junior Sanchez and more, have their own seats on the mix. Together, this curation of beats holds the chaotic and pulsing sound of London nightlife in a track list.
Tonight, Salute headlines Fabric Room 1 to celebrate the release, as is tradition, joined by Bambounou, Eclair Fifi, Helena Star and more to come. Fabric Presents launched back in 2019 and has since turned into a staple in the electronic music sphere. Salute’s mix series comes after their career-defining album True Magic with the single Saving Flowers racking up over eight million streams on Spotify. And it doesn’t stop there, Salute is also busy with the release of Infinite Passion club nights across the US and UK, and soon in Europe. A no-phone, dance-only space celebrating house and techno music, as well as the freedom of dancing from dusk til dawn without a care in the world.
Put your headphones on, close your eyes and you’re in the club. With beats interwoven by an expert hand, the heavy sounds are infused with groovy soul. A cathartic release for the nightlife lover, this 25-track series has no intention of slowing down. This is a great feat for Salute who’s following industry giants such as Andrew Weatherall, Sherelle, Confidence Man and The Streets in curating a collection for Fabric. Salute delivers energetic sounds, distorted voices, dense chords, electrifying drums and bass – in essence, this is the nightclub reimagined. Each track has a build-up and excitement to it, all the way from Salute’s mind into your ears.
Before the launch and party to follow, we sat down with Salute to discuss how this is a huge milestone for their career, what advice they would want to give their younger self and what accomplishments they’re looking to follow this up with next.
1. You’ve been asked to curate the legendary Fabric Presents mix series. How did you feel when you were approached to create your own mix?
It was a huge honour of course. Fabriclive mixes were an important part of my teenage years and taught me so much about the different subgenres of dance music, being given the chance to contribute to the mix series feels like a milestone.
2. What can we expect from it?
A variety of styles ranging from deep house to hardgroove techno: there’s a Kerri Chandler tune as well as stuff by Ben Sims, DJ Tonka and Olav Basoski. I love sample heavy house music and soulful loops, there’s a lot of that in this mix.
3. If you had to listen to one track from the mix non-stop for 24 hours straight, what would it be? Why?
Maybe the last track Lust Escort. It’s a dreamy bit of vaporwave. I’m pretty sure I’ve already done that with this song.
4. Describe your sound in three words.
Glossy, dramatic, dense.
5. You began creating music as young as 14, how do you feel your style has evolved since then?
I started out as a drum and bass producer, pivoted to instrumental hip hop, then post-dubstep before ending up making house. A glaring difference is that I also DJ now, an aspect of my job that has completely transformed the way I create music.
6. If you could give your 14 year old self a piece of advice what would it be?
1: Take your time, be patient. 2: Stop using so much reverb.
7. What spot in Manchester inspires you the most? Why?
Easily The White Hotel. Almost every visit there is some kind of transformative experience. It is my favourite club for a good reason.
8. What’s something you’ve learned about yourself through making this mix?
That trying to summarise your music taste in an hour can be extremely difficult.
9. If the mix were a meal, what would it be?
Pounded yam and egusi.
10. What’s next for you?
I’ve recently launched my new club night, Infinite Passion, so will be focusing on that for a minute. After doing True Vision I’m ready to focus on the club world again. I’m also working on a new EP for next year, then I’ll start thinking about album two.
