10 Questions With No Guidnce Following Their Headline Show At London’s Lafayette

No Guidnce is the hottest new boy band on the block. Comprised of native Londoners Zeekay, Ebubé, Josh Lomat and Kaci Brookz, they’ve landed in full force with a slew of nostalgic singles and two angelic EP’s already in their corner to prove that the rumours are true – British R&B is making a hard comeback and the No Guidnce boys are the ones spearheading it.

Having already positioned themselves as leading figures in that department, having worked together since April 2021, the group has secured success on both sides of the Atlantic. Working with the best in the music biz, calling upon producers like Lunchmoney Lewis (Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne), Ben Billions (The Weeknd, Travis Scott), JR Totem (Bad Bunny, Rihanna), Theron Thomas (Beyoncé, Lizzo), No Guidnce is gearing up for world domination. They’re already well-acquainted with viral success, having 2.8M followers on TikTok and accumulating over one billion views last year alone with singles ‘Committed’ and ‘Lie To Me’ in particular, making them not only the sixth most viewed/followed artist on TikTok last year, but also the owners of six of the most-viewed R&B TikTok videos of all time. Also, despite the fact that they only made their debut in March with the double A-Side single ‘Committed/Lie To Me’, they’ve hit the B-List at BBC 1Xtra; picked up plays at KISS; were playlisted at Kiss Fresh; snatched up ten New Music Friday’s across the world (incl. UK and US); garnered over 336k followers on Instagram and were co-signed by Chris Brown, Labrinth, Boyz II Men, Miguel and Lucky Daye. Amid contemporary music spaces, the British four-piece standout.

On Friday, the group played their second headline show in London at live music venue Lafayette, celebrating the release of their sophomore extended play, “The Spicy EP”.

Here, we chat to the prodigal No Guidnce boys who dish out the dirt on their inspirations, childhood dreams and The Spicy EP.

1. What’s the perfect song to introduce an alien to your sound?

“Is it a crime?”

2. Who/What are your biggest inspirations?

“We take lots of inspirations from the ‘90s, aesthetically and sonically. We studied a lot of groups from that time, for example, Boyz II Men, Jodeci & New Edition. But also we have a lot of modern day inspirations such as Drake & SZA.”

3. How has it been working together so far?

“It’s been crazy! It’s so good working with like-minded people. We’re a real force together and have lots of individual strengths that we bring to the table. It’s lucky that we enjoy each other’s company because we spend every day with each other and travel a lot!”

4. Do you have any party tricks?

“As a group, we can harmonise on the spot. I guess that’s a party trick.”

5. What has been the best part of performing live?

“It’s probably the best part of the job. Feeling the energy from the fans in real life and getting to see the impact our music has in person is special man.”

6. What message do you want people to take from your music?

“Overall, our sound is quite unique, that’s why we struggle to describe it. We tend to describe No Guidnce music as nostalgic and new school classic. We have music for everyone.”

7. When you were 5 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Josh: “Actor.”

Zeekay: “Chef.”

Ebubé: “Footballer.”

Kaci: “Footballer.”

8. What’s one thing you wish people knew about you?

“We eat sushi religiously.”

9. You spend a lot of time between the UK and the US, what has been your weirdest travel experience?

“We bumped into Beta Squad at TSA in Los Angeles.”

10. What can you tell us about The Spicy EP? What’s it about? How were you feeling when putting it together?

The Spicy EP, this is project number two from us! We were very experimental with where we took these songs, we wanted to tap into a different No Guidnce sound that the fans hadn’t heard from us yet. We think this EP is something special and look forward to showing and performing it to the world!”
