BEAUTY FINDS IS TEN’S ONLINE SERIES WHERE BEAUTY AUTHORITY EDWINA INGS-CHAMBERS DISSECTS HER MUST-HAVE BEAUTY FINDS EACH MONTH.
We meet again beauty pickers, just as April is about to draw to a close and May is already peeking at us from round the corner. So what beauty treats are looming largest in our rear view mirror, what have we tried, loved or simply couldn’t be without this month? Find out in our latest Top 10 Beauty Chart. From the top…..
In at Number 1 and it’s one of our favourite skincare launches in a while: Inkey List’s Exosome Hydro-Glow Complex. It promises a boosted glow and smooth renewed skin in 14 days – and, from our experience, it delivers. And how! Seriously, we’ve had people stop in their tracks and ask what small miracle has happened to our face because it’s looking luminous. No word of a lie. And the answer was, of course, this serum. It boosts collagen, hydration and improves skin repair. We could go into the science, but the brand website has it all and, frankly, what you really need to know is that this stuff is ah-mazing. Get yours here.
Number Two is also skin focussed, but this time it’s for the body not the face. Bid welcome to Aesop’s new Eleos Nourishing Body Cleanser. It’s a light textured cream that emulsifies into a gentle and light foam once you’re under the shower and is kind and nourishing to skin – containing, as it does, shea butter and jojoba seed oil. Its fragrance (a woody-spicy-herbaceous creation) is somehow the epitome of calm, of rebooting and of self-centring with notes of cedar atlas, patchouli and clove bud. With a campaign involving Nayoung Kim, a dancer of Tanztheater Wuppertal commissioned to create a unique performance inspired by the product and the ritual of cleansing, Aesop has continued the theme by releasing a playlist titled ‘Songs for Showering’ on the brand’s Spotify profile. Eye-opening logomania enters at Number 3 with designer eye patches that are highly lust-worthy. Dior’s latest hydrogel version of simply-named The Eye Patches is a highly desirable bit of beauty kit which offers a quick fix hit of hydration and brightening and come festooned with ‘Dior’ all over them. Never has eye care felt so fashionable. (And attentive readers will have already noticed from our latest 10 Craves that Dolce and Gabbana has also just launched No-Puff Caffeine Eye Patches – Depuffing and Brightening Eye Gel Pads which come festooned with the DG monogram and come housed in the cutest little tin; at Harrods and Flannels.) Logo-ed eye patches are most definitely in, me hearties.
It’s Number 4 and we’re still with the eyes – or at least holding steady in the eye area – as we celebrate eyebrow expert Anu Khapung and her new and exclusive residency at The Dorchester Spa in London. This woman tames and tints and generally curates the brows of many a celebrity and much of the beauty editor pack and for good reason because she can transform a face in under half an hour with her threading and tinting (she laminates too, deals with errant lip and chin hairs and tints lashes. Book yourself in, and should her appointment book be full get on a waitlist pronto. She’s worth it. Brown tint and shape (lasts 25 minutes), available every Friday at The Dorchester Spa (in-suite available). Book here.
Number 5 sees our first fragrance entry this month with none other than Perfumer H – that’s H for Harris, as in Lyn Harris – and her first fragrance with a tea connection: Steam. Given her love of tea – she sells a myriad of flavours packaged in her minimalist tins – and the ritual around it, many have expected her to create a tea-inspired fragrance long before now but the inspiration never hit. A trip to the remote mountains of Jingmai and its ancient plantation forests in southwestern China, home to nine ancient villages surrounded by a mysterious see of clouds suddenly changed all that and her creative juices flowed. The resulting Steam has notes of dewy plum, mandarin, coriander, grapefruit and a transparent steam of reseda and white magnolia, rooted in cedar, birch and green tea. This is special stuff. More than halfway through, and at Number 6 we’re bringing in some more body care. Well the warmer weather is coming and bare limbs are on the horizon, so it’s good to break out the Murad Smooth and Sooth Retexturizing body pads to help deal with body break outs and improve skin tone. Infused with salicylic acid and exfoliating glycolic acid just swipe them over areas of concern to smooth blemishes and even improve ingrown hair situations. Find yours here.
It’s all about looking cool in the heat at Number 7 as we welcome Kosas and its new Cloud Set Airy Setting + Smooth Mist. Not only will it lock in make-up and keep it in place for 12 hours – definitely useful as the weather warms up – but with a wealth of skincare ingredients it’s also multi-tasking and smooths skin with fruit extracts and hydrates as it goes. Alcohol, micro plastic and fragrance free. Shop yours here.
At Number 8 it’s time for an emotional getaway with Space NK’s new Paros Tides fragrance launch in their bathing and body range. Try the magnesium bath salts for a good escapist and relaxing wallow as you breathe in all the notes of fig, elderflower and aquatic notes all inspired by the Aegean coast. A pomegranate extract also helps to soften and hydrate skin. If you want to extend the pleasure then by all means also snaffle yourself the accompanying bubble bath, body lotion, body oil and hand wash. Shop the range here.
We’re going gourmand at Number 9 with another fragrance, this time a new launch from that full-of-heritage British brand Floris and their new Purple Memoire. It’s lavender, people, but not as you (usually) know it. This is a bold and rather sumptuous lavender with notes of cacao and vanilla alongside lavender (of course), bergamot, coriander, orris, ylang ylang and sandalwood. And it’s inspired, at least in part, buy the Floris family’s home Ivy Lodge in the last 1800s with its sprawling gardens and herbaceous borders. It’s a bit like lavender flowerbeds mixed with vanilla sponge baking. You can try it for a fiver in a 2ml bottle but a decent 50ml will cost you a pretty penny; shop it here.
And, in this month’s final flourish, there’s some serious beauty heritage at Number 10 with the publication of the Chanel book The Allure of Makeup. It’s the first tome dedicated to the history of Chanel’s makeup ranges and campaigns – a story which dates back over a century to 1924. Covering everything from the power of packaging to chapters celebrating a particular colour, this book is a visual feast of archive imagery, an essential for any makeup fiend, and is a joy to have in your hands. You can find yours here.
