The Ungaro girl in the eighties was a party animal – pumped up colours, pumped out puffballs, sexed/up silhouettes in acid bright colours, but with s couture finesse. Emanuel’s contemporary counterpart is Fausto Puglisi, a vivacious southern Italian who unleashes animalistic sexuality at his own label show in Milan but saves a refined streak for his dual role as Ungaro’s creative head. Today that was in the chintzed laces, the layered tulles and delicate daisy appliqués on sequinned and printed trellis patterns; while Puglisi’s wild streak came through in a highlighter-bright palette of blue and neon pink.
