WASTEYARN PROJECT X CELIA PYM POPS UP AT MERCI
Talented textile artist Celia Pym and knitwear brand WasteYarn Project (WYP), have just launched a lasting link-up centred around circularity and sustainability. WYP co-founder and designer, Siri Johansen, met Pym at their shared alma mater, The Royal College of Art, and the design duo quickly fell into step. Commencing the long-term collaboration with a pop-up at Merci, Paris, visitors were invited to observe live-and-in-person creation with the pair adding embellishments onto WYP sweaters by hand. THE QASIMI RISING TALENT INCUBATOR
London-based brand Qasimi has just debuted its own talent incubator called, Qasimi Rising. To nurture emerging designers and instigate growth, the incubator will provide two selected designers with three years of funding (six seasons), and an additional seven years of mentoring. With co-working spaces and support from industry professionals – including Erin Roberts, Nicolas Santos and Jay Solanki – there will be focus on production, product development, merchandising, marketing and business function. On the judging panel are GQ Middle East editor-in-chief Ahmad Swaid, Yuko Hasegawa and María Magdalena Campos-Pons, along with Qasimi creative director Hoor Al Qasimi. PER GÖTESSON’S ‘SLASHES EVERYTHING’ CAPSULE
Per Götesson’s latest capsule release, called Slashes Everything, does just as its name says. Giving new life to the overlooked, 19 vintage T-shirts are repurposed and resewn with the designer’s signature exposing cuts. Traditional masculine traits are subverted too, newly imbued with fragility and sensuality. Modeled by a patchwork of London creatives – Loshh, a multi-genre musician, and Luca Reuben, a designer at CSM – Götesson recruited his peers and fans to help create the capsule, transforming garments and delivering them back to the community via his webstore. Love and pain are at the centre of London-based brand Hatton Labs’ SS23 collection.
