Introducing “The Spangles”. Not the latest K-Pop girl group but Junya Watanabe’s muses for the season. A glorious, glittering gang of women, inspired by his nostalgia for stars of time-gone-by. “It is a collection that reproduces the costumes worn by the stars in my memories. My memories are monochrome, and I created a photo session with four fictional stars,” said the designer of his thought process. His fully sequin numbers come in bagged, ballooning, bubble-hemmed silhouettes, worn with matching leggings. This is the comfort dressing of our dreams. There are spangled versions of his signature trench coats, and a series of sinuous A-line gowns oozed golden era Hollywood glamour. The whole thing had the glittering atmosphere of Diana Ross video or a Ginger Rogers twirl. Good times are coming.
