As well as being the subject of an erotic dream that our fashion assistant Dominic once had, Mert Alaş and Marcus Piggott (or simply: Mert and Marcus) are also a much lauded photographic duo. Yep, since the pair met in the mid-nineties, they have photographed basically every super female on the planet (and a couple of super males, too) – Kate, Madge, Rihanna, Kim K. And lots more. They’re proper good. To celebrate this fact, Phillips Mayfair are putting on an exhibition, in collaboration with Art Partner, charting their work from 2001 to 2014 – from ad campaigns to cover shoots. Those with a fat wadge of cash and the desire to not just attend an exhibition but also to take something off the wall home with them, there will be 18 works on sale – 9 black and white, 9 in colour – featuring Cara, Kate, Karen Elson, Lara Stone and Natalia Vodianova, for which we will probably get pissed at the opening and accidentally buy seven. Genevieve Janvrin, Head of Photographs for Europe at Phillips says, “in recent years, we have seen a notable increase in recognition and demand for fashion photography, and this partnership allows us to present collectors with the first opportunity to acquire works by Mert and Marcus, two of the most influential artists working in this sphere.” It will run from October, before moving across the channel to Paris.
